Reproductive alates (swarmers) take to the air from specially built castles by the tens of thousands. It could be from a stump in the yard or right out of your living room wall. No state except Alaska is safe from the invasion. It’s over almost as quickly as it begins and sometimes the only evidence is discarded wings left behind.
It may be wise on your part to have a professional inspector come out to give you a once over. It’s not always visible even up to the hour in which they take flight, but in Ocala, there is no doubt, this years swarm has begun.

If you should suddenly experience a room suddenly flooded with flying insects, don’t panic. Just give the experts at The Bug Doctor Inc. a call. 237-0122

One of the common mistakes that people make when trying to treat the spiders in general is to use insecticides that are sold in the grocery or big box stores and believing that this in and of itself will be enough. Insecticide can kill a spider with direct contact but it is difficult to give a mortal dose of insecticide to a spider when it is running along the ceiling. Spraying baseboards and the like seems like a good idea and one would think when the arachnid runs across the barrier they’ll soon after die. The problem is spiders run on all sorts of surfaces and it would be unsafe to just hose everything down not to mention staining on ceilings and walls. Also general insecticides can be picked up very well by insects such as roaches or earwigs but spiders are not insects so their metabolism is not affected the same way and their feet are completely different than most insects and do not come in contact with near enough residual of liquid sprays to do any good.

If you need help with spiders in Ocala, please give us a call and we’ll be happy to help. 237-0122. We’ve had 30 years to perfect our service and know what it takes in our region to keep you spider free in Ocala.

The best way to control the infestation of spiders in your home is to use professionally made wettable powder insecticides, dry dust applications or even sticky traps. The main reason is that these powders or dusts are picked up much easier by the spider and although still slower than with other bugs, death will result. These forms of insecticide can be put in many of the hard to reach places that spiders lurk and hunt and their residual life far outlasts other types that break down quickly. While there is no ‘full proof’ strategy for using sticky pads or glue boards. You can improve your success by putting them near water sources taking advantage of the need of most spiders to drink h2o. An upside down cap of water placed in the middle of the sticky board actually works quite well to draw them in and trap them.

Another great strategy for reducing spiders is to spray the exterior of the home using your powder based solution. Webs are often easy to see so you can target those areas with good success. Sweep the webs down to ensure you are destroying any egg sacs and so you’ll be able to see when new spiders move in. Spiders go where bugs go so treating around lighting is also beneficial. Dusts can work very well in voids to not only kill spiders but to also ‘block’ them off from possible future access points since the residual is so long lived.

Any good pest control program will always include pest proofing steps as this helps keep the spiders out long before they become a problem. Spiders are surprisingly good at fitting through some tight spots so a survey of the home should be done noting any place that could be used for a spiders access. These areas should include but are not limited to; doors, windows, screens, thresh holds, cable or phone lines coming into the house, soffits, garage doors, dryer vents, recessed lighting in the ceiling, cracks in foundation, window sills and plumbing entries. Tightening up these areas goes a long way to reducing spiders from getting in and will help your pest control efforts out tremendously.

As a general rule, spiders are our allies and live on the front lines of our constant battle with bugs. Some people can tolerate more than others so your boundary may be different than others. For most people however the lines are pretty clear, one spider is one too many. So it’s probably best to keep them where they do their beneficial work best, out and away from our homes.

So you’re searching for that perfect company for your home or office. And you have questions, like whom in Ocala can I trust, can I leave them a key, and what kind of pest control do I need? Well first off let’s start with who can you trust in a pest control company? The best thing to do is search the web for a reputable Ocala Pest Control company. Try searching companies that have Google reviews like The Bug Doctor Has. Read their reviews and see if they fit into what you want in a company.

A second option is word of mouth, talk to your neighbors, coworkers, and friends and see who they recommend. You should also ask them questions like, do you trust them, do you have any concerns, and if they are professional and have clean equipment and trucks. Don’t ever settle on just asking one friend or colleague, ask several of them.

You can also pick up the phone to find that company you’re looking for and calling to ask those questions. Discuss with them your problems and ask how they would help you control and/or rid your issues. Don’t be afraid to wait for a return call, sometime the secretaries don’t have all the answers and have to ask the technician and be sure to tell them about the specific pest problem you’re having.

Schedule a consultation appointment, they are very important when selecting the company, tell them I would like to meet with a technician, and see what he recommends. Don’t be afraid to save specimens in a baggie or napkin. This way the technician can see exactly what’s happening and let you know if your house needs bi-weekly, weekly, monthly, every 2 months, or even semiannual to annual services. That way when the technician arrives, ask to see the interior of the vehicle, or sneak a glance yourself. See if the technician looks professional, this will be a good indication of the type of company you are inviting into your home.

Now that you have your appointments, and the technician is there to evaluate your home, is he nice and is he informative. Do you feel comfortable with this person and does he or she answer your questions, and does he or she give you a plan of attack to rid your home of unwanted guests. If you give them a key to your house, where do they keep it? Is it secure? Does he give you a quote in writing? Do you feel comfortable with this person having access to your home? Can he give you references from his other customers; these are things to ask when looking for a technician/company.

If you feel you don’t have time to make all those appointments on the phone you can always try the web, there are several companies that will let you set an appointment or request online. You can even find appointment setups online like www.pestcontrolocala.info. All in all take the time to find out about the company you want to service your home and be very thorough in your search.

Here at The Bug Doctor Inc., we would be honored to have your consideration.

Did you know your average exterminator doesn’t even own a bee suit? Bee work can be dangerous and requires the proper training and equipment. For the Africanized honey bee, it is crucial.

At The Bug Doctor Inc., we’ve been performing pest control for stinging pests in Ocala for over 20 years and yes, that includes the feared killer bee. If you suspect or see a dangerous hive on your property don’t try and go it alone. Call in a pro who has the equipment and know how that can safely rid you of this potentially dangerous situation.

Africanized Honey Bees (AHB) aka killer bees were developed by interbreeding European bees and bees from southern Africa by a biologists named Warwick E. Kerr. They were accidentally released in 1957 and from Brazil they have spread throughout South, Central and deep into North America advancing their range by some two hundred miles per year. Although the venom of AHB is no more toxic than your common honey bee it is the overwhelming response and numbers of stinging bees that makes them so dangerous. Killer bees can be easier to disturb than their counter parts and will stay agitated for up to 24 hours. Foot traffic to close to the hive, loud noises from passing vehicles or lawn mowers are often more than enough to trigger an attack. It is generally thought that the average adult can sustain up to 500 stings but serious medical conditions will occur thereafter including death. A person under attack should cover their head and run for cover. Once safe from further attack the stingers need to be removed to stop more venom from being pumped into their bodies. Scraping the stinger out with a credit card or a dull knife prevents pressure on the venom sac which ‘squeezes’ more toxins into the body.

This bee spreads by swarming and may travel great distances from the original hive. A new queen bee that has been specially reared leaves the nest and takes with her about 1/2 of the colony. This process is also known as budding and it is the same way which the European honey bee forms new colonies and spreads however the killer bee swarms more often. The new queen may lead her colony many miles away or set up in a suitable location much closer. Factors such as population density, abundance of food and water or natural disasters may effect the distance and direction. Since their accidental release this bee has established itself in the south western States to California and as far north as southern Utah. Florida is also an established area for the bee and colonies have been found in Georgia, Louisiana and Arkansas as well.

The Africanized bee looks almost exactly like the common honey bee and distinctions are only really evident under laboratory settings or from those with extensive training. The killer bees aggressive behavior is unfortunately the tell tale way in which this bee is most often identified.

Due to the dangers associated with this aggressive bee, we highly recommend that you call The Bug Doctor Inc. 237-0122. Even if you choose not to utilize our service please make sure to call in a professional bee keeper or exterminator if you suspect or find a colony. Your safety is to important to risk.

Their technicians service residential and commercial structures with the most modern and effective pest control methods. Their staff is trained year round both on and off the field and since they live in Ocala too, they are familiar with the bugs that bother you most and have extensive knowledge on how and where these pests invade your home. So please give us a call and let us prove the value of our treatments and show you why knowledge and friendly staff makes us the best pest control company right here in Ocala Florida. As the carpenter ant is currently swarming in our area and we get more calls, we’d like to take this time to let you know a little about the Florida Carpenter Ant.

As their name suggests, red & black carpenter ants have brownish-black bodies, black gasters and reddish-brown thoraxes. Popularly known in Florida as the Florida carpenter ants due to the large population present in the state, they belong to one of the largest species of ants in the world. An interesting fact about the Florida carpenter ant is that it has accounted for more than 20% of all complaints by homeowners, and a survey in 1995 found that only a few times other species were found in buildings over the carpenter ant.
The red and black carpenter ants eat a variety of dead and living plants and insects, as well as sweets, honeydew, meats and other household items. These ants are nocturnal and forage for food at night. Like other species of carpenter ants, the red and black carpenter ant prefers to nest in partially decayed wood, moist areas and other structures that offer consistent temperature, protection from environmental changes and predators. But they don’t eat wood like the termite. You will most likely find the carpenter ant in your porches or decks due to it being more exposed to moisture. Nesting habits of these two-colored ants are similar to other carpenter ant species. They tend to choose areas with moisture problems, such as attics and ceilings, carpets and flooring, windows, doors, trees and shrubs, woodpiles, and many more.

To identify the carpenter ant, it has antennae that are twelve-segmented. The terminal segment is bullet-shaped, slightly elongated and has no club. The antennal scape is broad and flattened basally throughout. The waist of a red and black carpenter ant consists of one petiole segment (node), and the tip of their abdomen has a circular ring of hairs. Black and red carpenter ants have long golden colored body hairs. A key characteristic of all carpenter ants can be seen in the Florida species: their thorax is evenly convex. Sexually active male carpenter ants are smaller than the queens, but have proportionally smaller heads and larger wings. Both male and female winged forms possess two pairs of wings, which are unequal in size. Most homeowners mistake a swarm of carpenter for termites and are unsure on how to tell the difference, just look for the waist, if there is none it will be a termite. I hope this information will help you and if you are still unsure about the problem you are having feel free to give us a call at The Bug Doctor and let us show you why so many people have chosen us as their pest control company.
